A good New Year’s resolution is to protect your health starting with food safety at home.

It’s New Year resolution season. Surely you have one related to food! Who doesn’t make this resolution every year? Especially after the big feasts of the past few days.

We suggest adding this to your list: follow food safety rules at home. At home we often break basic rules and may be the main cause of foodborne illnesses.

The four basic rules are:

Clean:

Foods, utensils, and work surfaces.

Separate:

Make sure raw and cooked foods do not touch.

Cook:

Foods should reach at least 65ºC to kill harmful bacteria.

Chill:

Do not leave food on switched-off stoves; chill it within 2 hours before placing it in the fridge.
